Consumers are continuing to express confusion over Coca-Cola product packaging three months after the company introduced a redesigned visual identity. Creative Bloq AI reported that shoppers are unintentionally selecting incorrect products, such as purchasing Coca-Cola Zero Sugar instead of original varieties when in a hurry. [1]

The Coca-Cola Company stated in a press release during the initial launch that the primary goal of the rebrand was consistency across its product lines. The company aimed to establish one seamless visual identity to deliver a recognizable brand experience across global markets. However, the updated packaging design has led to consumer hesitation at the point of sale. [1]

The product was originally launched in 2005 under the name Coca-Cola Zero. It was designed as a zero-calorie alternative to original Coca-Cola using artificial sweeteners to imitate the taste of sugar, making it distinct from Diet Coke which uses a different formula. The product underwent reformulation and name changes to Coca-Cola Zero Sugar in 2017, followed by a subsequent reformulation in 2021. [2]

Initial releases of the product utilized an all-black can to clearly communicate its presence as a new market entry. The latest visual update moves away from that distinct separation in favor of a unified brand family appearance. [1]
