Developer Om Lahore has created RemoveMacAI, a command line tool that turns off Apple Intelligence and frees up over 12 gigabytes of storage space, Ars Technica and The Verge reported. The open source tool was released on GitHub last week following changes in macOS 27 Golden Gate, according to Ars Technica. [1][2]

The Verge and Ars Technica reported that macOS 27 removed the single settings toggle that previously allowed users to disable Apple Intelligence. Because of this change, the underlying artificial intelligence models remained stored on the drive even when individual features were disabled in system settings, according to Ars Technica. [1][2]

RemoveMacAI switches off the artificial intelligence capabilities, deletes the local models from disk, and blocks the system from downloading them again, according to The Verge and Help Net Security. [2][4]

Apple Intelligence is a suite of features relying on a combination of on-device and server processing, which runs on Apple silicon chips such as M-series processors. MacOS 27 Golden Gate is the operating system for Apple Mac computers. [8][9][10]
