OpenAI merges Chat and Work tabs within ChatGPT desktop application

OpenAI is combining the Chat and Work tabs inside its ChatGPT desktop application, according to reports from TechGig and TechCrunch AI. TechGig and TechCrunch AI both report that OpenAI informed users of the upcoming change through an email notification. TechGig reported that the update aims to unify the desktop user experience by allowing users to explore ideas and execute projects within a single interface. [1][2]

Users will be able to bring files and plugins into the unified interface to instruct ChatGPT to build websites, create presentations, or perform web-based tasks, TechGig reported. TechGig and TechCrunch AI both report that Codex will remain a distinct experience within the application, but ChatGPT and Codex will draw tokens from the same allocation pool following the transition. The change will start testing in December, according to a post on OpenAI's website reported by ZDNet AI. ZDNet AI and TechCrunch AI both report that the update will initially be made available to select users for feedback before OpenAI rolls it out more broadly. [2][3]
