Perplexity has launched a set of work-focused artificial intelligence agents named Teammates, according to The Verge AI. The new always-on tools are designed to take on multiple roles within a workspace while pulling from existing projects, skills, and memory within current Perplexity applications. The release positions the startup in direct competition with workplace AI offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic. [1]

The Verge AI reported that Teammates integrate directly with Perplexity Computer, an AI system that deploys agents onto a user device to complete tasks. Perplexity stated that Teammates build on top of the Computer platform by offering the ability to collaborate on ongoing, large-scale work. Users can assign each Teammate different jobs that they can perform simultaneously. [1]

The deployment of autonomous agents for workplace tasks expands on wider industry efforts, such as Devin AI, an autonomous software development tool created by Cognition Labs. [2]
