FedEx is expanding its deployment of artificial intelligence agents across its business processes, according to InformationWeek. Speaking at the recent ONUG fall summit in New York, Gene Sun, the corporate vice president and chief information security officer at FedEx, stated that AI agents introduced to enterprise ecosystems must originate from within the company and receive security clearance. InformationWeek reported that Sun called for disciplined oversight across the logistics and transportation company's ecosystem. Sun emphasized that the automated tools must still be vetted to ensure they operate within enterprise guardrails, despite marching orders from company leadership to accelerate the adoption of AI agents across FedEx, which generates nearly $86 billion in annual revenue. The focus on corporate cybersecurity oversight follows previous major software disruptions in the enterprise sector. On 19 July 2024, the security firm CrowdStrike issued a faulty update to its Falcon Sensor software that crashed approximately 8.5 million Microsoft Windows computers, leading to what was described as the largest IT outage in history.
