Canva announced the launch of its first artificial intelligence image generation model on Thursday, according to The Verge AI. The new model is called Canva Craft and competes directly with existing systems from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. [1]

The Verge AI reported that Canva Craft uses a two-stage architecture that plans a layout before generating the final output. The publication noted that this design approach allows for greater precision, consistency, and control. The model can create visual assets at up to 2K resolution and supports more than 30 aspect ratios for social media posts and marketing content. [1]

The software firm was founded in Perth in 2013 by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams to make design tools accessible to non-designers as an alternative to complex software such as Adobe Photoshop. The company provides a graphic design platform for creating visual content including presentations, posters, websites, and photo and video editing. [2][3]

By the end of 2025, the platform supported more than 265 million monthly active users across 190 countries in over 100 languages. Users had created more than 30 billion designs on the platform by that time. [3]
