Drax Group has struck a 20 billion pound deal with infrastructure investor Brookfield and AI infrastructure platform Radiant to build a major data center in North Yorkshire. The Guardian reported that the facility will be built on the site of the Drax power plant. The site is expected to reach an eventual capacity of more than one gigawatt. [1]
The project is scheduled to begin initial operations by early 2028, according to the Guardian. In the first phase of the development, Drax will supply land and access to the national power grid using the existing electrical connections at the site. [1]
Drax plans to transition to powering the facility directly by the early 2030s. The Guardian reported that the development represents what the owner describes as the next chapter for the power plant location. [1]
