OpenAI is working to secure a private funding round of up to 30 billion dollars before pursuing an initial public offering, TechCrunch AI reported. According to CNBC, the investment round is led by investment firm Coatue alongside investors based in the United Arab Emirates. The potential transaction values the artificial intelligence company at a pre-money valuation of 1.25 trillion dollars, TechCrunch AI said. [1][2]

Outlets differ on the exact valuation figures discussed in recent weeks. TechCrunch AI noted that Bloomberg previously reported a potential 30 billion dollar raise at a 1.4 trillion dollar valuation. Both CNBC and Bloomberg report that terms remain under active negotiation and are subject to change. CNBC also reported that the proposed funding from the United Arab Emirates may be linked to a deal securing additional computing capacity for OpenAI. [1]

If OpenAI completes the transaction at a valuation exceeding one trillion dollars, TechCrunch AI reported that it would break records as the most highly valued private company ever. OpenAI reached a valuation of approximately 850 billion dollars following funding rounds completed in early 2026. The San Francisco based public benefit corporation is led by chief executive officer Sam Altman and develops generative artificial intelligence models, including its Generative Pre-trained Transformer series. The potential private funding round comes as other companies in the sector adjust their public listing plans. The Motley Fool and AOL reported that competitor Anthropic is moving toward an initial public offering while OpenAI delays its own offering. Separate reports from market outlets indicate that data center developers associated with OpenAI infrastructure are also evaluating initial public offerings in late 2026. [3][4][5][6]
