Brave, a privacy focused web browser and artificial intelligence search company based in San Francisco, is facing a copyright lawsuit in the United States. MLex reported that The New York Times and other publishers filed the legal action against the firm. [1]

According to MLex, the lawsuit accuses Brave of scraping copyrighted content to power its own search engine. The publishers also allege that Brave sold access to those copyrighted articles to major artificial intelligence developers, including Anthropic, Perplexity, and Mistral. [1]

As FTMQ SI reported earlier, public sentiment regarding artificial intelligence and copyright protections remains a major policy issue globally. A previous survey conducted by RedBridge Group found that 78 percent of Australians believe AI companies should obtain permission before using copyrighted material. [3]
