Intel stock fell roughly 28 percent on Friday after the semiconductor manufacturer released a weaker than expected outlook for the fourth quarter. TechCrunch AI reported that the sell-off was driven by declining personal computer sales, as the broader artificial intelligence industry consumes memory and other hardware components, pushing computer prices higher. [1]

According to CNBC, as cited by TechCrunch AI, the single-day drop reduced the value of the United States government stake in Intel by 12 billion dollars. The Trump administration purchased a 10 percent stake in the chipmaker over a year prior. [1]

Nvidia took a major equity stake in Intel in 2025 and also saw its stock decline slightly on Friday amid a broader sell-off across chipmakers and the technology sector. TechCrunch AI reported that despite the decline, Intel stock remains up over 70 percent for the year, keeping the investment profitable for both Nvidia and the government. [1]
