Google co-founder Sergey Brin has instructed artificial intelligence staff inside the company to go all in on Gemini, according to shattered.io. The effort comes as parent company Alphabet seeks to close a competitive gap with rivals Anthropic and OpenAI that opened up earlier in 2026. [1]
The reported directive was initially reported by Yahoo Finance, which cited a Stocktwits report, and corroborated by coverage from The Next Web. The move comes as Google spent much of 2026 working to match performance against Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra on independent benchmarks, shattered.io reported. [1]
The instruction is part of a broader internal push into what Sergey Brin described as a recursive self-improvement phase of AI development, shattered.io said. Google DeepMind originally announced the Gemini family of multimodal large language models in December 2023 as the successor to LaMDA and PaLM 2. [1][4]
Gemini was initially introduced in Ultra, Pro, and Nano sizes for tasks ranging from complex reasoning to lightweight on-device processing. The model powers the Gemini chatbot and virtual assistant developed by Google. [3][4][5]
